Varsity girls, boys basketball teams battle on

Fans gather to cheer loud and proud, stomp on the bleachers following the rhythm that meets basketball season with positive energy. The girls stand 2-3 in district and 9-9 overall.

The new season brought new players and new team goals for the girls varsity team.

“We are hoping this season is a good impact towards our team and our coaches and our basketball fans who encourage us at every game,” varsity player Danielle Lopez said.

The team is ready with a good mentality.

“Our goal is to make it to playoffs and develop younger players for next year,”  varsity girls basketball head coach Corina Mauruffo said.

The girls have been working hard.

“We have been working on our speed and to be more aggressive  when it comes to playing against one another,” varsity player Emily Aguilar said.

The varsity girls team includes Emily Aguliar, Victoria Anaya, Desiree Arroyo, Jaqueline Guevarra, Sarah Hernandez, Kayla Larry, Danielle Lopez, Jazmin Melendez, Maya Ramirez, Cindy Ramos, Alexa Rucobo.

Eager and ready to start the season with a good start the boys varsity team is also ready to play.

“We want to have a successful season be at top of district and have the opportunity to win playoff games,” varsity boys basketball head coach Will Churchill said.

The boys are making adjustments.

“We have been trying to adjust since our seniors left, new roles, new adjustments we have replaced 6 of our phenomenal seniors,” varsity point guard Jesse Martinez said.

The varsity boys team includes Isaiah Cisneros, Michael De la Torre, Sam Estrada, Karch Gardiner, Jamail Garcia, Brandon Lopez, Diego Melendez, Jesse Martinez, Julian Najera, Nathan Nunez, Cris Ramirez, Jorge Rendon, Alvarez Zavior.

Varsity boys encourage one another standing 3-1 in district and 11-6 overall.

“The boys always come together as one more when it comes to game time however sometimes competitiveness affects other players emotions,” Coach Churchhill said

The boys have one dominant goal.

“Repeat as district champions and get a regional and area championship. We are all ready, ”  Coach Churchill said.
