Cross country starts the season with returning members and new faces. It is time for the team to run long distances to qualify for advanced competitions.

During the afternoon the cross country team practices on a daily basis.

“We do more than just running, we also do speed workouts and conditioning, but most importantly teamwork,”cross country boys team captain Joaquin Rascon said.

The season started and new faces are dedicated to this team.

“We have nine returning and 11 new members on the team,” cross country coach Corina Marrufo said.

Throughout the week they work extra hard to improve endurance.

“We practice before and after school for an hour or two,”Marrufo said.

Some individual members want to accomplish new goals and are working hard to achieve them.

“I want to pick myself up and beat my own record,” Rascon said.

Others want to achieve more.

“I want to make regionals as a team and I believe we have a strong chance of making it,”

Cross country captain Valeria Loo-Kung said.
