Laugh Out Loud at the Comedy Club

As the school year becomes increasingly stressful, students find ways to distract themselves by playing video games, talking with friends, or sleeping for the rest of the day. One new club may prove to be a better stress reliever for students — The Comedy Club.
“We want a place where students can relax and calm down after a long day,” sponsor Veronica Ulloa said.
The Comedy Club was founded by sophomore Hillary Monclova, president of the club, after a discussion with friends.
“It started off as a joke, but I took it a step forward and turned it into a reality,” Monclova said.
The club was originally going to be a meme club, where students discuss or make memes. Monclova thought it was best suited as a comedy club.
The club meeting starts at 4:05 p.m. and is in session until 6 p.m. During this time, students can make friends and talk to others, along with improving their social skills.
“We work on improv, joke delivery, impressions, and so much more,” sponsor Audrey Gomez said.
Gomez and Ulloa agreed to be the sponsors for The Comedy Club alongside sponsor Denise Baca when Monclova approached them with the idea.
Monclova talked to principal Antonio Acuña, about starting the club. He excitedly agreed and started to help plan with performing somewhere around January.
“Acuña actually approached us about having performances during lunch,” Ulloa said.
The future for this club seems bright.
“ I hope to see confidence grow in students, and that they will better their communication skills,” Gomez said.
The club meets in room C206 and has over 20 members.
“I hope that students have fun and be nice with each other,” Monclova said.
