Super, blue, blood moon eclipse

Super Blue Blood Moon on Jan. 31 photo by A. Seltzer

It was not just the first eclipse of the year but in a rare occurrence it was also the first super blue blood moon. The moon was at its closest point in orbit to the Earth, it was the second full moon within the same month and appeared red due to its reflection of the sun. The event was last seen in North America 150 years ago March 31, 1866.
