Vegas theme glams up Homecoming
October 5, 2017
Bright lights, fabulous shows and dazzling sights greet students for Homecoming. The Vegas theme sets the mood with picturesque glamour and a fun party atmosphere. Like any other major event, Homecoming requires a lot of planning and preparation.
Many clubs and organizations are wondering how the theme is going to influence their involvement in activities such as the decorating process, pep rally and parade.
There were other themes to choose from, but student council had to make a decision.
“The theme was decided before the end of last year,” student council President Catalina Crosse said. “The other options were Disney or Outer Space. We decided by taking a vote.”
Many organizations are coming together to make the Homecoming experience great for everyone.
“We’re helping to decorate along with the Class of 2018,” National Honor Society (NHS) member Valeria Castaneda said.
The theme is what sets the foundation for all of the additional creativity that comes with the fun of Homecoming, especially the decorations.
“I think the theme is going to make it easier to decorate,” Castaneda said.
On the other hand, the theme has proven to be a challenge for some organizations to work with. The Conquerette dance team, who is set to perform at the Homecoming pep rally, have run into some challenges.
“We had to watch for content,” Conquerette coach, Melissa Dominguez said. “Choosing the music was hard.”
Overall, students like the theme and the atmosphere it will add to Homecoming.
“I think the theme is really cool,” junior Neida Gutierrez said. “I’m really excited for Homecoming and the idea of being in Vegas while actually just being in school.”
