Batman to the rescue
April 11, 2017
Prom is among the highlights of senior year, but it is a big event and it is complicated to organize.
Prom is set for April 22, and has a particularly dark theme.
“We are doing a Gotham Night, it is going to be a superhero theme and students can dress like one or either way dress classy. We are using dark colors as in Batman movies, like Black and Gold,” Class of 2018 sponsor Rick Jordan said.
Many don’t care for the theme.
“Most of the people do not think that superheroes should be a prom theme because proms are supposed to match (evening) outfits and dances so “Gotham City” is not good because not many people (will) follow the theme and it’s not even fun,” senior Italia Castorena said.
Some students think it will be difficult to dress for the theme.
“It (will) be hard to be all dressed up with that kind of theme,” senior Rebecka Alvidrez said.
The vote was clear and the theme will not change.
“We did a votation with the whole school, and the Gotham theme ended up winning. Those who did not vote and want to change it, (are at) fault for not voting,” Jordan said.
Seniors are comparing the theme to that of last year.
“(It would be better if they) added more of a classical and elegant touch such as the theme of Great Gatsby,” senior Kimberly Chavez said.
Juniors are working hard to make prom memorable for seniors
“We are going to use some ideas from last year’s theme, such as black and gold, but we are going to (add) our own twist,” Class of 2018 liaison Julieta Cardona said.
Whatever the circumstances, seniors still want to have fun at prom.
“I am going to prom because this is my senior year and I want to take advantage of it,” Cardona said.
Some like the idea of superheroes.
“I like D.C. comics and I think it is a great idea to make prom Gotham city, at least people can dress as the parties that Batman has,” junior Julio Rodriguez said.
Some are suggesting that seniors organize prom themselves.
“Seniors should organize it because we are the ones going to prom, and it is ours. We know what we like and we could have thought of a better theme to make it the best. To make it a great prom like last year,” Cardona said.
Planning a prom is a year long project.
“Seniors are way too busy and it would be really tough to make them do another event. I think juniors are good with this, and they have the time to do it,” Jordan said.
Traditionally juniors plan the senior prom.
“We started planning this around November, and I think we had a lot of time to plan it,” Cardona said.
In March rumors were widespread that there was not enough money to fund prom.
“It started because we started late with the fundraisers,” member of Class of 2018 Stephanie Delgado said. “We need around $4,000 and we have $3,000 not including the money from prom tickets.”
Prom tickets will solve the last details.
“With the money of the prom tickets, we will use it for small additions such as decorations on each table,” Delgado said.
Jordan said money is not a problem.
“We have done nine fundraisers, we also did a comedy show. We went to Walmart and sold cupcakes and coupons,” Jordan said. “We don’t have to worry about money.”
The Class of 2018 is asking for support.
“We need as much help as we can get from our junior class and volunteers,” Delgado said.

i think that idea for prom was a good idea because students can dress like batman and have fun with that.
