A “Monster Calls” in a tale of a boy and his monster

Life can be a living hell for a kid whose mom is laying down in a hospital bed with a critical illness, who is constantly bullied at school with nobody to help him. Such is the case for 12-year-old Conor in A Monster Calls, directed by J.A. Bayona. Bayona is best known for directing the horror movie The Orphanage, and the The Impossible.

Conor is an amazing artist, drawing spectacular sketches of frightening monsters that look that they might come off the paper. His vivid emotions come through in his drawings. One calm night the earth is torn in two as a 12-foot tall creature comes to the surface. Conor is the spectator of the unbelievable scene unfolding outside his bedroom window, as the creature comes closer he claims Conor summoned. This monster soon becomes Conor’s companion and restores Conor’s lost faith and the will to keep fighting.

The movie trailer has the creature breaking down an old building. This is a unique story of fantasy combined with the hardships of life, while maintaining the innocence of Conor. This movie has a lot to offer.
