It’s always tea time

The Drama club is working on their second production, Alice in Wonderland, directed by Marissa Thurman. There was only one showing Dec. 2, but the show is on the road with showings in elementary schools.

“This is our first time doing the play,” tech theater teacher Martha Gutierrez said.

Designing the sets for the play is easy, but building the sets is something else.

“It depends on how much time I’m given and how big the show is. It will take about a month to have everything ready,” Gutierrez said.

Practice makes perfect.

“When we rehearse we stay about an hour long and we run the play six times,” Five of Spades Erik Marquez said.

Trying new things can be a pleasure, especially when one is new to it.

“This is my first time being in a play and I am thrilled to be in it and can’t wait to see how well it turns out,” Marquez said. “My character in this play is the Five of Spades and I am one of the King and Queen’s helpers,” Marquez said.

Everyone has their own way of memorizing their lines.

“What helps me is going over it about five times every night,” Cheshire Cat Briana Villalobos said.

Having so much dialogue can be hard to handle.

“In the beginning it’s hard to memorize but the more you practice the easier it gets,” Villalobos said. “Memorizing the lines is probably what makes the play the most challenging and I only come out four times.”
