The varsity volleyball girls team had a tough season standing 3-13 in district, 8-21 overall under head coach Jesse Lugo. The team is ranked 9 in the 5A Region 1 District 2, 876 in the state and 10,336 in the nation.

“This volleyball season may have not gone as well as we planned, but playing with these girls kept the positivity throughout the season,”captain Veronica Alvarez said.

The Lady Conquistadores had their last home game against Hanks High School falling to the Knights 1-3, Oct. 21.

“Friday was a very emotional game because it was also Senior Night and our last game of the season,” outside hitter Aryiah Woodart said.

The volleyball team did not make playoffs a second year in a row and plan for major changes next season.

“Condition, condition, condition. We’re going to be in the weight room training physically and mentally, as well as on the track,” Lugo said. “We’re also going to participate in spring volleyball leagues. The main change that will take place is that the team will be a group of young ladies who are competitive by nature, not just to play.”

The team is graduating seven seniors and is seeking underclassmen to rebuild.
