Induction time is here. Students dress up, parents take pictures and organizations go above and beyond to welcome their new members. For honor societies, this is one of their biggest events.

“Inductions are important because we are celebrating, honoring some of the best students in our school,” National Honor Society sponsor Richard Sanchez said.

There are five national honor societies on campus including National Honor Society (NHS), National Art Honor Society (NAHS), National English Honor Society (NEHS), French National Honor Society (FNHS), and Spanish National Honor Society (SNHS).

“You must have good grades, attendance and discipline records to get in, as well as community service hours and other factors” NHS member Luis Guerrero said.

Every organization has its own twist on induction that accommodates to its members and organization style.

“Our induction is also our banquet,” FNHS president Cesar Estrada said.

Not all organizations have an induction.

“I’ll consider doing one next year, I think it will be a good idea,” NAHS sponsor Eduardo Saucedo said.

NHS and NEHS hold their induction ceremonies on campus, while FNHS holds it at Central Office and SNHS hosts it at a restaurant.

“It is very hard to plan for induction, but the students and the officers help a lot,” SNHS sponsor Magdalena Sigala said. “Inductions show students that they matter and motivates them to do well not only in Spanish, but in all their academics,”
