Seniors eye scholarship choices
May 12, 2016
Students are taking advantage of scholarship offers and some are wrestling with making the right choice.
Junior Deanne Alderette received two scholarship offers, a$20,000 Honors Scholarship from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a $56,000 Legacy Scholarship from Houston Baptist University.
“I applied in October and found out in February,” Alderette said.
She said she was both proud and surprised when she was notified. Alderette wants to study physical therapy.
“If I don’t get a scholarship for softball then I’m probably going to UTEP,” Alderette said.
Senior Adrienna Lucila Chapparro received three scholarship offers. Nineteen other students were rewarded with scholarship offers during the third round of scholarship awards held in the library, followed with a celebration.
“The scholarships were part of the applications for the colleges” Chapparro said.
“The first scholarship I found out in October for Mary Baldwin College and then about two months ago I found out about West Virginia University” Chapparro said.
Chapparro is going to study political science with minor support management, so she can be a sport agent and than go to pre law.
“I was pretty excited because since I’m not top ten percent I didn’t think I would get any type of scholarship so to me it was pretty great,” Chapparro said.
