The popcorn is popping, and the movie is rolling. Librarian Elena Ortega has a great idea Movie Night on campus every Friday.
“I wanted to give students an option to have something to do on Fridays,” Ortega said.
It is organized based on campus events by the Book Club including sophomore Diana Vargas, freshman Alejandra Martinez, and freshman Andres Flores.
“The work is separated between us that way we provide the perfect Friday movie night for everyone,” Flores said.
Movies are chosen based on books such as The Hunger Games saga, and Divergent.
“If you’re a big fan of movies based on books this is the right place for you,” Martinez said.
Movie nights are free and students may purchase snacks.
“We offer popcorn, sodas, chips and Mexican candies. Nothing is left over,” Vargas said.
Movie nights on campus are cheaper than going to an actual movie theater.
“It’s great to have movie nights because it is a free movie and you don’t spend a lot of money like at a movie theater,” senior Joselyn Fraire said.
Students also enjoy spending time with their friends on campus.
“I come with my friends to have a good time when we don’t have plans on a Friday night,” junior Kimberly Chavez said.
The movies run at the library from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
