For some students coming back to school means work and for others it means fun activities and a special dance at end of the week.

Students dressed as if it were the 50s, decorated doors, and had a McDonald’s eating contest that included three cheeseburgers, one small fry, five chicken nuggets, and a bottle of water.

“Homecoming is an event to get everyone in the school involved early on. It’s a time to continue traditions and welcome back alumni “Come home” a time for alumni to return to their alma maters and reconnect,” student council sponsor Cindy Spitz said.

The week was topped off at halftime at the Homecoming game on Friday night, Christopher Teruel and Karla Amador were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Glenn Salazar and Cassandra Hernandez were named Homecoming Prince and Princess. Ianne Trochett and Jasmine Anchondo were voted Varsity Duke and Duchess.

“It feels bittersweet just knowing that this is my last Homecoming. Just being a senior is bittersweet. I’m so glad that I have left my mark as Homecoming Prince of class of 2015,” Salazar said.

The parade was filled with various club floats while the Class of 2015 shouted loud and proud; representing the seniors. The evening ended with the 3rd Annual Firework Extravaganza. Honored-ex was Diana Regalado and the Grand Marshal was assistant principal Carlos Guerra.

“All of the events are fun but the fireworks and extravaganza is really cool now that we have had it for the past three years,” Spitz said.

Students lived up to the “Through The Decades” Homecoming theme by dressing up as if they were in the 50s, 70s, 80s throughout the week. An hour lunch with open campus made Homecoming week even more enjoyable for everyone.

“The best part about Homecoming week is the hour lunch, we actually have time to eat comfortably,” junior Misty Vasquez said.

In the pep-rally, clubs and organizations exhibited their decorated carts, the Art Club winning the game while AWARE took second. The school played against Ysleta winning the game 42-23. The football team remained undefeated.

“So far we are unstoppable. We have all been working hard and so far it’s paying off. Homecoming is a big deal to us because we are representing our school; our home. We have a lot of people counting on us, after all we are the Big Bad Blue,” right guard Luis Hernandez said.

The Homecoming dance completed the week. It was definitely a night to remember as Homecoming came to a bittersweet end.
