It’s football season and the players are amped for games. The season started August 27, against Burges High School with a score of 56-0, Conquistadores.

“The team has been working hard with a good summer training getting them ready for the season,” varsity coach Rudy Contreras said. “Our goal is to win the state championship, but to do that we have to take care of the smaller goals. We have a lot of great seniors that have been on varsity for three years and some strong sophomores and seniors,” 

The team has many traditions for games.

 “At the end of our games the players go to the track and start doing jumping jacks with the fans that we call DV Jacks. We also have a tradition at the start of the fourth quarter to show we’re ready to finish out the game. we yell out fourth quarter,” coach Contreras said.

The players took on Canutillo High School, Sept. 16, 38-7.

“Canutillo is probably our toughest opponent because last year it was a good game that took us to overtime and I can’t wait to play them,” center Mark Villegas said.

The team suffered their first loss against Pebble Hills, 50-13.

“I want to have a deep playoff run and go farther than the second round,” safety Raymon Riddick said. “The loss to Pebble Hills was a big eye opener for the whole team,”

Communication is key to winning games.

“As a team I feel like learning how to communicate to take adversity and come back stronger. My goal for the season is to stay as one no matter win or lose and bring back a district and bi district championship,” Villegas said.

The team took District and sealed the season 5-0 in district, 9-2 overall.
