Wrestlers Jesus Fierro, Yazeneth Madero, and Tommy Calderon made it to state competition. The state championship was held on April 24.

“Madero led the girls to a great season, she went all the way to state and got fourth place at state for the 95 lb weight class,” wrestling coach Christopher Thummel said. “Fierro had a fantastic season, Jesus also got fourth place in the 138 lb weight class.

Fierro is the boys team captain.

“I didn’t act differently when I realized I punched my ticket to state because I knew this wasn’t the end of the road just yet. I would say my biggest challenge I faced was going more than half a year without stepping on the mat before the season started,” Fierro said.
