If anything can lift spirits it’s Christmas music. Ranging in genres from upbeat to mellow, Christmas music has it all.  It never fails to instantly put people in a jolly mood. Certain tracks just have a different impact.

     Christmas music has come and gone but the classics never go out of style. Great classics are still being remade by popular artists. So that begs the question, what are the top five Christmas songs? Based on an informal poll and a little research, the data speaks for itself.

 At number 5, “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” by Michael Bublé. While this song is very popular people do not like it as much as other songs on this list. This Christmas song was written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie but was adapted by Michael Bublé for his 2011 Christmas album. By 2012 it was number 35 of 100 on the Billboard charts staying there for 38 weeks. 

Number 4, “Little Drummer Boy” by the Pentatonix from their “That’s Christmas to Me,” album. The vocal group released their cover of “Little Drummer Boy” in 2014. Originally written by Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941 and played by the Harry Simeone Chorale. This version became known several years later after it was re-released. With the pure vocal version, the song was on the Billboard charts for one week at number 27 out of 100. 

   Number 3, “Jingle Bell Rock,” by Bobby Helms, which he made in 1957. While many have remade this song, the original version will always mean more to hearts. When this song first came out it was a single on its own album peaking  Dec. 23, 2005. Making it number 37 on the Billboard charts, staying there for three weeks. This is a personal favorite since the girls in “Mean Girls” danced to it. 

Number 2, “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano, written in 1970,  peaking on the Billboard charts last January. Spending 10 weeks on the charts this simple and sweet Spanish song is known for its easy phrase. This classic holiday song was engraved into our hearts at a very young age. 

Number 1, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” by Mariah Carey is one of the most popular Christmas songs. Back in 1994 Mariah and Walter Afanasieff, co-writer and co-producer, wrote this best selling song and released it on “Merry Christmas.” This was Mariah’s first Christmas album, and after 25 years “All I Want for Christmas Is You” made number one on the BillBoard hot 100. 

     In the end, all Christmas songs are great and mean so much. Christmas time is the most wonderful time of the year. “Christmas music itself warms my heart,” Dennise Rodriguez junior said.
