Holiday spirit in holiday performances

Christmas season is upon us and Holiday performances have begun. Students in the dance teams are preparing.

Entrelace practiced for weeks. They performed Dec. 11 at district and Dec. 1 at school.

“(We are dancing) cha-cha, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop. (The) Conquerettes (are) doing (a) waltz and kicks,” dance teacher Gloria Tovar said.

Entrelace is performing a character dance.

“(They will be wearing) police outfits, boxer (outfits), (and a) New York Glam,” Tovar said.

The folklorico dance team is also dancing to a song called “La Negra” and a tango dance to “Diablo Rojo.”

“(We) will be dancing tango, never before seen,”folklorico captain Fernanda Baca said. “For the tango we are wearing a black shirt with black spandex and a red tango skirt.”

Folklorico has been practicing for two months.

“These events usually take about two months to get prepared, fix formations, and clean up missing parts of the dance,” Baca said.

Students put a lot of  dedication into these performances.

“The dancers put a lot of effort in their moves and they always give their best even at practices,’’ Baca said. “These events help students to express their feelings, especially those who are very shy.”
