Co-ed sports wrap ups
Tennis
The varsity tennis team finished their season 14-15 in district. The team is willing to better this record next year. Loyalty is the next step to success, and the tennis team knows that it is not easy to get a win, it takes more than swinging the racket, it takes dedication and hard work.
“It was a pretty good season, we had good improvement for this season, we should be one of the top teams for next year,” tennis head coach Hugo Martinez.
Golf
Placing 3rd in district, the Golf team also took 2nd place in District 2-5A Tournament Boys, 4th place in District 2-5A Tournament (Team B). As a team, Conquistadores participated in the Cedar Creek Wolfdancer with a 36-hole game. The team has good players that can do the job and looks strong for next year.
“Fantastic, this season we improved, it went better than last year. Guys improved, they keep working hard for next year,” golf head coach Oscar Cordova said.
Track
Steven Montez, one of the best quarterbacks in the city took the opportunity to do well in track too. Montez manned the 100 meters, Long Jump, Triple Jump; Frank Garite ran the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters; Irvin Zurita, 100 meters and 400 meters. Girls running the 100 meters include Letty Herrera with a 14.99a and 7’6″ pole vault. Leeza Gutierrez ran the 400 meters at 66.79 and 800 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meters. Track coaches are looking to make it an ever better season next year.
“It was a great season, we ran fast, we got 2nd place in boys side, junior varsity got district champs. We had 10 boys and 3 girls qualify for regionals, and 1 state qualifier Joshua Hernandez,” track head coach Orlando Hairston said.
Swimming
Facing a rough season, the swim team placed 4th in district. The team was led by Dana Garcia and Vladimir Ocampo. The team needed that extra push to do well and have an outstanding season. The team is looking to improve for next year.
‘”It was an okay season, we didn’t win district this year but I know that my underclassmen will work hard for next year and make it all the way,” swimming captain Dana Garcia said.
