Varsity Boys Team Sports Wrap-Up

Football: As always the football team showed everyone else in the city that they are one of the best. Capping off with an 11-2 overall record before a heartbreaking loss to Aledo High School in the 2-5A Playoffs.

“Even though we lost to Aledo, the eventual state champion, it was a great year for the team,” varsity football head coach Jesse Perales said.

The team looks forward to next season with upcoming young talent.

“Although twenty-three seniors are leaving, we expect success next season and we want to win state,” Perales said.

Boys Soccer: While having success in prior years the soccer team fell short this season.

“Even though our season ended earlier than we expected it to be, we had a fairly successful one,” varsity soccer head coach Bruce Reichman said.

Although they made the 2-5A playoffs with a 14-7-3 record, they lost to Horizon High School in the regional quarterfinals.

“With upcoming young prospects, next season looks great and we are aiming for that state title once more,” Reichman said.

Boys Basketball: Despite losing many seniors last season, the boys basketball team  capped off the year on a good note. With many talented up-and-coming players, the team accumulated a 20-11 record and made playoffs for the second time in three years. The team played Bowie High School hard in the first game of the playoffs but feel short of in the comeback .

“We had a very good season, it was the second time in school history we hosted a playoff game and had many of our players make the All-City and All-District teams,” basketball head coach William Churchill said.

With next season on the horizon the team looks to have repeated success.

“Barring injuries next year, we would like to be one of the top teams in the district next season,” Churchill said.

Boys Baseball: Capping off the year with a 14-9-1 record the team advanced to the 2-5A playoffs. Even though the team lost to Randall High School in the Regional Quarterfinals, the team had a great overall season.

“We had a great year, we were area champs and made it all the way to the sweet sixteen in the playoffs,” varsity baseball head coach Neil Sanchez said.

While most teams are looking for improvement for next year, the baseball team wants to enjoy the moment for now.

“We want to enjoy our accomplishments now before even thinking of what’s in store for next year,” Sanchez said.
