Fuego vs Conquerettes Softball Powder Puff
To prove who’s the best by swinging their bats, girls in Fuego and the Conquerettes dance team played each other to raise funds for next year’s Fuego team members May 22.
“The first year I held a Powder Puff game was back in 2009. I came up with the idea as a fundraiser for future Fuego members,” dance teacher Gloria Tovar said.
Money collected from tickets is deposited into the club’s school account and used for costumes and summer camp.
“I haven’t played before. This is going to be my first and last year participating in the Powder Puff game, but I feel that this is going to be a fun experience against each other,” senior Fuego member Cassandra Lopez said.
Members of the teams love to help in the fundraiser, but it is not every year that the girls choose to play softball to entertain the crowd.
“I have played before in my freshman and sophomore years. My freshman year we played football and it was fun, I think this year we should play football instead,” junior Conquerette Netanya Avina said.
In order to practice the girls get together at school, with baseball players, when they can, to plan.
“We’re barely going to start practicing, because we have been so busy with Entrelace try-outs and Senior Farewell, but I know we’re ready,” senior Conquerette Ashley Martinez said.
For some it is the last year playing and knowing that they helped the Fuego team for a good cause makes them proud.
“I haven’t played before, but I wish I could’ve of done more things like this throughout the year,” Martinez said.
New members of the teams will take part to help raise funds for their team by selling waters and Bolis.
“I’m excited to play because I haven’t played softball in three years and I’m happy to go on the field again. This is going to be an intense, but fun experience,” Martinez said.
