Comic Con offers world of fantasy

A popular annual event Comic Con, was recently held in the city. Comic Con is an international event for people with an interest in comics, movies, and science fictional characters. It first started as a “minicon” in San Diego, C.A. The El Paso Comic Con is growing and becoming more popular. With an entry fee of $30 for the whole weekend, El Paso citizens attended this event at the El Paso County Coliseum. There is plenty to do for attendees. “They have diverse activities for you, play pre demos of new upcoming games for next generation consoles such as PS4 and X-Box One,” speech and debate teacher Ricardo Jordan said. Attendees show up in outstanding cosplay, mainly as their favorite characters. Cosplaying is the practice of dressing up as character from a movie, book, or video game. Favorites include dressing up from Japanese manga and anime series. “I really enjoy being in the cosplay community and nothing is more fun than a bunch of nerds coming together to express their love for the same interest,” sophomore Kimberly Giselle said. Comic Cons also draw many well-known celebrities that have starred in recent fictional movies. They attend the event as star guests. Actress Shannon Elizabeth and actor Charles Baker attended last year’s El Paso Comic Con. Many have the privilege to meet the actors. “I have met Ray Park, famously known as Darth Maul, Michael Jai White and Temuera Morrison. It was one of the best days of my life,” junior Cesar Mercado said.
