Associate director named band director
The school website states that Martinez was the Visual, Woodwind and Program Coordinator since 2002. In 2004 he was named the Associate Director of Bands. He currently serves as the conductor of the Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble. And he is currently the Audition Coordinator and Facilitator for Region 22 who performs professionally with the El Paso Wind Symphony throughout El Paso, Texas, Germany and Australia.”
It is little wonder that Armando Martinez was proudly announced as the new band director, in late February, by Principal Carmen Crosse.
Students that have worked with Martinez throughout high school are happy about his promotion.
“I was expecting this to happen,” senior flutist Marlaina Navarro said.
Ex-band director Manny Gamez and new band director Armando Martinez worked as a team.
“(Martinez) always worked with the other students,” senior percussionist Andrew Tiscareno said. This helped the rest of the band practice in order to be ready to compete or perform.
The Symphonic band, Jazz Ensemble and Marching band have consistently earned honors. The students competed in the Solo and Ensemble competition and were named district champions.
