Senior gift approved, press box to be renovated
It’s almost the end of school and seniors will soon be saying goodbye. After four years of fun and memories, the Senior Class always gives back with a senior gift. The Class of 2015 sponsors Corina Marrufo and Nancy Pena and class president Yesenia Ramirez along with class officers and principal Carmen Crosse decided on the senior gift.
“We hope to remodel the press box and that would cost around $20,000,” class sponsor Marrufo said.
The renovation will consist of new windows, paint, chairs, and designs on the inside and outside of the press box. The Class of 1999’s Conquistador Stadium sign will remain untouched.
“It’s worth all the work that will be put into it, and I’m sure that the result will be great.” Pena said.
The project was put on a hold, pending district approval of the construction for the press box.
“YISD just approved the construction this past week, so systems are go,” Pena said. “Although the start of the construction is still to be announced.”
The Class of 2015 held a fundraiser May 8, at McDonald’s on 1351 George Dieter. Many didn’t know what the fundraiser was for.
“The McDonald’s fundraiser was for the Senior Breakfast that will be on June 4th,” Pena said. “We ended up making $400 from the $4,000 that they made between the 5 to 8 p.m. deal we had.”
Senior Breakfast is always good, although rumors have spread that there isn’t going to be a Senior Sunset due to the high cost of the senior gift.
“No that is false,” Marrufo said. “We have to pay for Project Celebration and we did not plan on that, but it is still unknown.”
Keeping up with fundraisers and events can be a hassle and a lot of stress.
“It is extremely difficult with an emphasis on the extreme,” Pena said. “We can’t hold kids accountable for anything, and there is some lack of communication. Although despite all the trouble, the year has turned out to be good so I would give it a B-.”
The end of the year is when it is time for seniors to come together and create a few last good memories.
“It’s almost over and it would be great if all of the senior class attends the Senior Farewell, breakfast, sunset and the big Project Celebration,” class president Yesenia Ramirez said. “We were here to make history, so we should end it with a bang so that many will remember Del Valle’s Class of 2015.”
