After five years of success, Zayn Malik left One Direction March 25. Malik wishes to be a normal 22-year-old, who’s able to have more private time away from the spotlight. As a sign of a new beginning, Malik even shaved his head.

The boy band, One Direction, including Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson will continue as a four-piece recording their fifth album to be released later this year. The boys respect Malik’s decision, even though  fandom speculates he quit due to rumors about cheating on his fiancée, Perrie Edwards, or because he wants to go solo, since Malik released a song with Naughty Boy.

Directioners base their speculation on Malik’s tweet, saying that rumors were coming from jealous people and he declared his love for his fiancée. He later  went from @ZaynMalik1D on twitter to @zaynmalik and edited his bio to remove the following message “just enjoy the roller coaster that is life.”

The controversy isn’t based just on that. Harry Styles said he respects Malik’s decision but complained that he wanted to quit the band first. Fans were waiting for the band to split since most bands don’t last more than five years. It’s surprising the four-piece will continue, but Styles is expected to leave soon and  fans don’t think another One Direction album is happening after he does.
