Wrecking Ball takes Best Video at VMAs

There are songs that were expected to win, songs that were not expected to win, and songs that surprisingly didn’t win anything. Going from Best Video of the Year to more specific genres such as Best Female and Male Music Videos, there were 16 awards.

The award for Best Video of the Year went to Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball which got over 715 million views on YouTube.

It’s surprising that Sia’s Chandelier didn’t win. The song was outstanding. The rhythm, the sound, and the dancing was spectacular! Unlike Wrecking Ball the song was actually made this year. Cyrus already won an award last year for the song it is only fair to give this award to a outstanding, brand new song.

Drake’s song Hold On (We’re Going Home) featuring Majid Jordan won the award for Best Hip Hop. Even though Eminem is known for his amazing rap songs, this Hip Hop tune was a fresh and new thing for him. Doing something out of his expected genre turned out great. It had the highest views between the competing songs on YouTube with 117 million views.

It was a hard choice between John Legend’s All of Me and Ed Sheeran’s Sing featuring Pharrell, but Sheeran’s catchy song had the least views on YouTube with 60 million. Though the numbers of views are low, the other songs can’t compare.

It was a shame to see that Lorde’s Royal or Ariana Grande’s Problem featuring Iggy Azalea didn’t win against Katy Perry’s Dark Horse which won for Best Female. However, Problem won Best Pop and Royal won for Best Rock.

Even though Beyonce’s Drunk In Love featuring Jay Z wasn’t the best song that she made, it did win the award for Best Collaboration. One win that can’t be denied the best of the competing songs was her Pretty Hurts which won for the Best Video With a Social Message. This song which speaks of the troubles and the downside of what many girls struggle with by being thin or beautiful has touched the hearts of many who can relate.
