At the edge of Texas where cowboys and cowgirls walk the desert and horses run free, student council is bringing the Texas vibe to Homecoming.

“The Homecoming theme is Deep in the Heart of Texas,” student activities president Irma Escobar said, “When we went to Texas Associations of Student Councils (TASC) their theme was Deep in the Heart of Texas, we decided to do it here.”

Student council wants to make El Paso proud.

“El Paso gets left out so what a better time to celebrate our great state and show what El Paso is all about,” student activities director Christopher Lopez said.

Homecoming week is action packed with pep rallies and a parade all in accordance with a western theme.

The theme has had a few bumps but student council is trying to make it work.

“Some issues have been finalizing the dates and deciding if people should dress up like cowboys and cowgirls but we’re working around it,” Escobar says.

The council had a back-up plan in case the theme didn’t work out, but ultimately they had one idea in mind.

“There’s always been the Disney idea and “All Around the World” but we’ve done that before, we were just trying to be unique this time,” Escobar says.

Student council is hoping the event is a success.

“There’s already been people thinking the idea is weird or just not liking it overall, but I feel like at the end of Homecoming everyone is going to think it was unique,” Escobar said.
