Usually, Coachella fans can’t wait for the artist lineup to be announced. The Weeknd, Beyonce and Eminem are headliners, but fans are upset.

“Just seen the Coachella lineup … Where the **** are all the bands!? It’s a festival,” One Direction member Louis Tomlinson tweeted a day after the lineup was announced.

Rock’s decline in popularity has caused the festival’s genre selection to shift, fans have Tweeted.

“I agree with rock fans being upset with the lineup,” junior Hailey Ramirez said. “They can’t enjoy the festival due to most of the stages being taken up by non-rock artists.”

Previously the lineup was predominantly indie and alternative rock. The festival is April 13-15, and again on the following weekend from April 20-22.

“I feel rock is dying out in popularity due to the changes made in Coachella. (This) rock festival is becoming a mix of multiple genres of music and kind of leaving out rock, with only four bands playing,” Ramirez said.

Over the years bands such as Guns and Roses, Tame Impala and Radiohead performed.

“Coachella is meant to be a rock/indie festival and a lot of the lineup does not reflect that,” junior Alexis Herrera said.

Even though some people might not agree with the changes, Coachella is a fusion of many different sounds, styles of music and artists that brings people from all walks of life together to enjoy it.

“I can see why (fans) are mad, but there can be (a mix of) rock and other genres,” Contreras said. “Why can’t they all share?”
