Year three of the boys varsity team “blue reign,”the boys motto, begins as the squad starts its quest for a three-peat. But varsity knows it will not come easy.

“As a team our number one goal is to win district for the third straight time. No other school has done that so we’re all chasing that gold ball,” point guard Jacob Villarreal said.

Although Villarreal has been playing basketball practically his whole life, there is one motto he lives by which is “secure the bag,” meaning to take advantage of the situation.

“I feel that the game of basketball has a lot of tricks behind it. That’s why I like using my athletic abilities to an advantage against certain teams, ” Villarreal said.

There is a lot of leadership on the varsity squad but there is one player who rises above.

“Abraham no doubt, he always finds a way to motivate us even when we winning,” forward Nathan Nunez said.

It’s not always fun and games playing basketball.

“We work harder at practice the next day and play harder for the next game,” Nunez said.

The team is focused on a three-peat.

“I feel that we have improved since the end of last season we communicate better but we still aren’t playing to our full potential. We are getting better everyday,” Nunez said. “There are many other teams that are chasing that gold ball but none deserve it more than us.”

Coach William Churchill believes his boys are capable of anything they want to do on the court.
