A floral shop doesn’t have much business until Seymour, a flower shop employee, discovers a special flower with a thirst for human blood. “Little Shop of Horrors,” is the Drama Club’s new production. Auditions were held Sept. 8, in the theater.

“It’s the 10-year anniversary since Mrs. Gutierrez and I started working here. We picked this play because it was the first play that we ever directed,” theater director Marissa Thurman said.

Tech Theater teacher Martha Gutierrez has her classes build the set.

“I have my advanced classes help me build them,” Gutierrez said.

Inspiration comes from the play itself.

“My ideas come from the mood, time period and the main setting of where the play takes place,” Gutierrez said.

There is no time to waste.

“It takes about two months to build depending on the deadline, and how big the set needs to be and how extravagant it is,” Gutierrez said.

Students have to choose music and prepare for their audition.

“Choosing the right song is having self confidence and trusting your gut,” junior Destiny Amaya said. “I prepare myself by practicing as many times as I can.”

Auditioning for the first time can be nerve wracking for some people.

“It took me a while to get used to things because it’s the first time I’ve ever auditioned for a play. It was scary at first but now it’s nice,” junior Damian Zuniga said.

Opening night includes a dinner Oct. 25, tickets are $10. The play runs Oct. 26-27 tickets for the play only are $5.
