After a long hot summer break, school finally starts. Incoming freshmen start school in a place they have never been with people they’ve never seen before.

“School so far is fun but hectic because I’m always running around from hall to hall. All the homework we have (and) short classes,” freshman Brooke Jordan said.

The first day of school isn’t necessarily bad.

“It was tricky, but I liked it because I have a good schedule,” freshman Daisy Perez said.

Walking to that first class can be terrifying for a new student.

“I wasn’t nervous for my first class because I had dance and to me it just feels like a practice but I was nervous to go to my second class because I was scared that I wasn’t going to know anyone,” Perez said.

There are many hallways and it can be confusing trying to get to a class.

“I did get lost going to my classes because I thought my classroom was on the other side of the school,” Perez said.

Being on time to class is tricky too.

“I was about ten minutes late to one of my classes because my class was on the third floor, but on the E hall, which is on the other side of the school and I thought both third floors for W and E hall were connected,” Perez said.

Even on the first day of school students quickly choose a favorite class period.

“My favorite part of school is Study Skills. Not only do I get to dance again but since it’s a shorter time it feels like I give it all my all. It’s right before lunch, and I love the fact that I’m up and going before lunch rather than sitting at a desk and doing homework,” Jordan said.

Depending on the day and the class time can move fast or really slow.

“It was a long day for me because it was boring and I’m not used to 10 periods in one day,” freshman Christian Lozano said.

The night before the first day of school can be crazy.

“I was excited and nervous for the first day of school because it was a new school and because summer was already boring for me,” Lozano said.

High school is a lot bigger, there are more students compared to middle school and multiple events to attend.

“I was tired of being (in middle) school because three years in such a small school was too long for me,” Lozano said.

Being involved in school activities such as a sport, club or organization makes school life busy.

“A lot of things make my school experience crazy but that’s also what makes it fun. I always have something to do,” Jordan said. “Being in Debate and the Entrelace dance team keeps me busy,” Jordan said.

Some adapt to high school faster than others.

“I haven’t gotten used to so many faces. My freshmen class is 550 or so and it’s hard to try to fit into everything. Other than that, the hallways are easy to navigate, my classes are easy to remember, it really is just finding a way to fit in now,” Jordan said.
