Wrestling for the win

Wrestling is a competitive individual sport that takes a lot of strength and concentration to be good. One of the most rewarding things in competition is to make it to state. That is exactly what the team including Javier Duchene, Ceasar Ramirez, Andres Perez, Arlette Orozco, Jennifer Limas did at the end of February.

One competitor that made it to state is senior Ceaser Ramirez who has been with the team since freshman year and has worked hard to stay at the top.

“My overall goal of the competition is to place first,” Ramirez said.

It is a sport that demands concentration and focus. But athletes also have to have an end goal and motivation to do their best.

“I get motivated by making my mom and my team proud and also to set a good example for freshman,” Ramirez said.

The road to state isn’t as easy as it looks, it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of fierce competition to be at the top. It takes hours of daily practice full of drills and new techniques to better their skills.

“The competition was fierce but I could’ve done better without an injury,” Ramirez said.

Making it to state is basically the all time goal for a wrestler.

“It makes me feel good and it gets me excited,” wrestler Javier Duchene said.

Wrestling isn’t just about winning it’s about achieving an accomplishment.

“I feel as if you earn the chance to compete at state by how good you wrestle,” Duchene said.
