Basketball team eyeing a great season

Coming off a successful season, the basketball team looks to prove doubters wrong once again. The team looks to make a run this season that may be as equally memorable as it is incredible. The team currently stands with a 3-0 record overall and awaits district play.

“This year we expect to play hard and smart every game, while hopefully picking up a few playoff victories along the way,“ Head Coach William Churchill said.

The team looks to improve vastly from last year in all aspects of their game.

“We are pretty solid as a team already, but our attitude can improve as well as our overall defense including our rotations,” Churchill said.

The players on the team, including senior point guard Isaac Tovar, think the team will be great due to senior leadership.

“Having a pretty good number of seniors on the team helps because we already have that chemistry intact, along with mentors for the younger guys coming up,” Tovar said

That certain player or x factor on a team is huge because it brings a new dimension to the team overall.

“Many people don’t realize our attitude and effort is important to the team as well, ” Churchill said.

Improvement will be vital to the team as well, as many players on the team eye key mistakes from last year to improve on.

“We have many things we can work on in all areas of our game there isn’t really one that sticks out,“ senior shooting guard Jonathan Bloberg said. Rising to the top of the district wasn’t easy, but the team is determined to prove their 2-5A counterparts wrong.

“This season we have to live up to the preseason hype on being a state ranked team and show people this team is for real,” Churchill said.
