Girls hoop it up

The basketball team sees this season as more important that most might think. The game is more than being on the court. As of Dec. 11, the girls are 5-3 overall and 0-1 in district.

“This sport is important to me because I have passion for every game I play and I enjoy it a lot compared to any other sport,” varsity forward Victoria Anaya said.

The girls play the sport for various reasons.

“I have always loved basketball even when I was small but when I started I was really scared because I thought I was bad so I really didn’t want to play. Through the years I got better and better and I just fell in love with the sport,” varsity point guard Karla Sosa said.

The girls are looking to prove the doubters wrong and have the support of their classmates.

“I’ve seen the girls practice with coach Diaz and they actually practice a lot harder than we do because they are girls and people assume they can’t play just because they are girls. Even if they do lose they always prove everyone wrong,” junior Rafael Tena said.
