Project Celebration
Senior bash nearly scrapped
Seniors walk in cap and gown to take part in a serious ceremony that concludes their high school career. By 10 p.m. gowns will be traded in for a bathing suits as students head to Wet-N-Wild Water World Park for Project Celebration.
Due to a $3,000 hike in the rental fee of Wet-N-Wild, Project Celebration was almost canceled. The school is charging students a $5 fee, to be paid during senior clearance, in order to continue the tradition.
“I think it’s okay they are charging only $5, because it’s not much and plus they’re providing food, drinks, music and prizes for us,” senior Jackie Mata said.
The price to rent Wet-N-Wild went up and the school was given a late notification of the price hike. Student council is paying $5 per senior, because the price hike added a $10 change per person.
“The school is charging to enter because guest tickets don’t cover the additional charges, if not, the celebration was being canceled or shared with Bel Air High School,” student council sponsor Cindy Spitz said.
Project Celebration is after graduation, June 9 until 3 a.m.. It is the last time seniors can spend time together as a class.
“I think Wet-N-Wild is a good place for Project Celebration because summer is almost here and everyone wants to be in the water, specially at night because there’s not a lot of sun to get a tan,” senior Valeria Carlos said.
The celebration provides every person with free hamburgers, hotdogs, and chips from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m., and free beverages all night. To add a little fun there will be $1,000 worth of door prizes raffle in the last hour of Project Celebration.
“I’m definitely going, because it’s my last day to spend that much time with my friends before going into the real world. I don’t want to waste any second of the night without them,” Mata said
Seniors are not the only ones that can enjoy the celebration. Other guests can buy tickets for that night. Tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Anyone may attend but small children are not permitted.
“It’s nice that I can bring someone along with me that’s not from this school, because I have close friends that after middle school took another path to high school and I’m planning to invite them,” Carlos said
For security reasons the school, is maintaining a checkpoint at the entrance of the water park. There will be no glass, alcohol, grills, and tents allowed with the exception of bags, cloth, blankets, chairs, and pre-packaged food.
“It’s my last year and in there my last day with all my friends, therefore I expect to have fun and go through the night without any problems. After that maybe we won’t see each other that much or not at all, I don’t want to reject not enjoying that night,” senior Jorge Sosa said.
