Principal Carmen Crosse surprised Plaza Palooza attendees when she took the Ice Bucket Challenge for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

“(It was) cold and breathtaking,” Crosse said. “I would do the challenge again since it’s about the awareness the action brings.”

Like most students Danielle Medina heard about this challenge on a Facebook video and Instagram. Crosse had a link attached to the challenge sent by Soccer Coach Bruce Reichman who took the challenge August 19.

“I am getting together with the administrators (who she has also challenged) to donate to ALS,” Crosse said.

Medina also took the challenge on Sept. 23, challenged her older sister Cassandra Medina and friend Emily Cerecerez.

“It felt like 1000 knives stabbing me,” Medina said.

The Ice Bucket Challenge includes ice cold water poured over a person’s head to bring awareness for ALS which affects the nerve cells that are connected to the spinal cord and the brain impacting muscle control. The challenge is meant to raise money in a fun way.

“Even though the feeling was unpleasant I would do it again because it’s a good experience like nothing I ever felt before,” Medina said.
