The Conquistadores are among the best in the city.

“How far we go will depend on how far our leaders take us,” Offensive line coach Ariel Famaligi said.

People are excited to see Conquistadores step on that field. They know that watching them play, is enjoyable and it is a pleasure to get together to cheer them on.

“I think we’ve given our fans reasons to cheer. Could we have been more impressive? Sure. We always feel that way. In fact, after beating Gadsden by close to 40 points, our team was disappointed that we didn’t look more impressive. Only at Del Valle can you win by close to 40 and be disappointed,” coach Famaligi said.

The excellence is not just from the players, coaches are a big part of this team as they push the team to go further.

“We have really good coaches, they get us ready for no matter who we go against,” Offensive line Abraham Pineira said.

There is something unique about this season, after beating one of the best high school teams, Coronado High School.

“We have hopes that this will be a special season. We’ve never been 6-0 before and with each win, the possibility of going undefeated becomes more and more realistic,” Famaligi said.

Players just want to go that step further and want to be successful in their season.

“Our expectations are to get to go to state baby!,” Linebacker Joshua Lewis said energetically.

Every season there are new players, but for seniors are sad to leave their team after graduation.

“Every year, it is difficult to say goodbye to our seniors. We see them enter as little boys and watch them leave as young men. It is extremely rewarding and give us coaches a great sense of pride. We are proud of the men they are becoming and will become in the future,” Famaligi said.
