Uil Academics teams hard work pays off
Christina Boatman and Nancy Lopez are the sole qualifiers in the Academics University Interscholastic League (UiL) competition. At the UiL Spring meet in Abilene, Christina Boatman took first place in Ready Writing, while Nancy Lopez took fifth in Calculator Applications and sixth place in Mathematics.
UiL provides academic, athletic, and music contests. The Academic contests include Accounting, Computer Applications, Computer Science, Cross Examination Debate, Journalism and many others.
Overall the Spring Meet at Chapin High School was a success.
The Accounting team took fourth place with Ricardo Vega, Luis Rosales, David Contreras and Steven Hernandez.
Calculator Applications won second place as a team with Abner Palomino, Nancy Lopez, Cynthia Belio and Jaime Regis.
Second Place as a team was won by Computer Science with Eric Torres, Robert Portillo, Josh Hernandez and Enrique Vasquez.
The Cross Examination Debate team took third and fourth place with Kevin Del Real, Alexis Vega, Nicholas Duran and Stephanie Frausto.
In Current Issues the school won second place as a team with Daniel Nichols, David Nicholas, Eduardo Martha and Stephanie Frausto. Speech also won second place as a team.
The Journalism team won first place with Aimee Santillan, Jazmin Anchondo, Llojan Almaraz, Denisse Muniz-Orozco and Irma de la Pena.
The Math team won second place and Number Sense took third place as a team with Abner Palomino, Alfonso Arrequin, Nancy Lopez, David Basaldua and Brian Gonzalez.
Fourth place was won by the Science team with Irvin Astorga, Jacob Rodriguez, Alfonso Arrequin, Arturo Morales and Jocelyn Arreola.
Social Studies team took third place with Evelyn Gonzalez, David Nicholas and Daniel Nicholas.
Spelling and Vocabulary team took second place with Alfonso Vasquez, Alaide Rebecca Catinguiera and Evelyn Gonzalez.
The students that placed traveled to Abilene, Texas. They competed and are getting ready for state.
