Brian Griffin: Back from the dead

Brian-Griffin-CroppedBrian Griffin the family pet in Family Guy makes Family Guy. In a recent episode Brian dies after being run over by a car. Really. The writers  fully detailed Brian’s death throughout the episode. Needless to say many tears flowed. Drastic and traumatic come to mind when remembering the death of this very special family member, best friend, and  great dog. If they wanted to get rid of someone, the  writers should have considered Meg. She is annoying. Brian is loved and cared for.

After Brian’s death Peter and Lois visited the pet shop to buy a new family dog in an effort to get over Brian. The family settled on Veinny the Italian talking dog. How about no.

Brian is a friend that can’t be replaced. Stewie Griffin, the family baby, didn’t like Veinny from the start. Here is a thought. Maybe Veinny ran over Brian. Maybe Veinny got Stewie to destroy the time machine. Brian was dead for two episodes, and fans were confused when the writers brought him back.

It was as if he never died. It’s not cool to kill someone and then bring them back to life.

The “Christmas Guy” episode was confusing too. In the episode Stewie is in a toy store where he runs into Stewie from the past. The first thing Stewie-from-the-present does is to take the time machine away from Stewie-from-the-past and go back in time to save Brian from dying.

It makes sense that Stewie finds himself, but there is no point in destroying the time machine and killing off Brian if Stewie ends up having the time machine all over again. Maybe the writers realized that killing Brian wasn’t such a great idea and they had to find a way to bring him back, but they didn’t bring him back in a clever way.

They just brought him back so the viewers wouldn’t stop watching the show. Brian is a great character and bringing him back was the best idea, even if it wasn’t done in a clever way. Brian Griffin is Family Guy, and Family Guy is Brian Griffin.
