A trailer for a movie about the popular video game franchise, DOOM, was posted on YouTube March 11. The movie DOOM: Annihilation is straying from the original plot of the games.

The issue is the lack of story and this can be a problem in the big screen. Writers have creative freedom to make a story, and they are shrinking from what made the game recognizable. The writers created a whole new scenario, just as the writers did in the 2005 DOOM movie.

DOOM featured actors Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Rosamund Pike and Karl Urban. The movie is about a group of marines who teleport to Mars after getting a distress call. After arriving, it is revealed that the station is testing humans with DNA samples of a previous civilization which turn humans into monsters.

Although the DOOM movie has some references to the video games with a first person scene, it still strays from the video game. The games are about a single space-marine fighting off demons from Hell, in the movie, it is a group of Marines who fight off monsters. Another problem is that the movie plays out like a horror movie. The game is not a horror game.

The movie DOOM was met with a 5.2 of 10 rating by IMDb and a 34 percent rating by Metacritics.

DOOM: Annihilation faces the same fate. Although the plot line includes Hell, there are many flaws and it drifts away from the franchise. Just like in the previous movie, DOOM: Annihilation will be more of a horror movie and includes a group of marines. The marines are female leads.

The political correctness leaves fans of the fame angry, since the protagonist in the game is male. One of the actors, Amy Manson, tweeted out, “Who needs a Doom-guy,” and was met with negative comments about how the movie is doomed to fail.

The movie could’ve had potential if it were closer to the plot of the games. Many fans are disappointed and even the official DOOM twitter is confirming that it is not involved in the making of the movie. This movie is well … doomed.
